A journalist assigned to the Jerusalem bureau takes an apartment overlooking the Wailing Wall. Every day when she looks out, she sees an old Jewish man praying vigorously. So, the journalist goes down and introduces herself to the old man.
She asks, "You come every day to the wall. How long have you done that, and what are you praying for?"
The old man replies, "I have come here to pray every day for 25 years. In the morning I pray for world peace and then for the brotherhood of man. I go home, have a cup of tea, and I come back and pray for the eradication of illness and disease from the earth."
The journalist is amazed. "How does it make you feel to come here every day for 25 years and pray for these things?" she asks.
The old man looks at her sadly. "Like I'm talking to a wall."
Praying and seeking the Lord is not supposed to be like that. There are great benefits to seeking the Lord.
Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD. 4 Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore.” (Psalms 105:3-4 KJV)
The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing." (Psalms 34:10 NIV)
Think about that; "those who seek the Lord lack no good thing." Turning our attention to seek the Lord and pray at the beginning of the year has a reward. This seeking the Lord is not a lifeless ritual but one that allows us to meet and speak with our Heavenly Father, and get real answers to things we need. It orients our lives towards God. It puts feet to the fact we all know- we need Him. To set aside times to seek Him and pray makes our faith "real." It says -I really do believe there is a God who has everything I need. He is not reluctant to answer but instead entreats us, commands us and woos us with incredible promises. Why? He loves us and wants to give and bless us.
"Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.'" (Jeremiah 33:3 NASB)
I hope that you are setting aside specific times to seek Him at the beginning of this year. Remember He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.
