Have you ever bought something off the TV and when it came it was nothing like you expected? Or maybe it was half the size you thought. I heard once about a hot tube that a man bought that was hundreds of dollars cheaper. When he got it, it was really just a big plastic inflatable kid pool with tall sides. Con artists make a living by making promises that never get delivered.
Our God is not like that. The God who made everything we see has made promises to us; promises to answer when we pray and fast, when we obey, when we trust, when we give. He even says that He takes personal responsibility to make sure that what He said will really come to pass.
"Then the LORD said to me, "You have seen well, for I am watching over My word to perform it." (Jeremiah 1:12 NASB)
We have recently seen God answer people as we as a church prayed and fasted together. Here are some: A woman's father had prostate cancer for many months, and was scheduled for surgery. They were praying for him during our 21 Days of Prayer Fasting. A week ago he was checked by the doctor and was declared free of the cancer with out no need of any surgery.
A sister in the church called a friend in Colima Mexico, and her friend told her that her father (friend) just came back home after 15 years of having abandoned the family, but came back sick with a tumor on his spine. They immediately started to pray for him, asking God for healing. Last week, as they called each other, God answered and the man is free of the tumor.
A woman had diabetes and had been taking medicine for 18 years. She said her whole family struggled with the disease. While she prayed and fasted her sugar levels became normal and the doctor told her she no longer needed the medicine.
A young woman who was working Harlingen had in the past asked the Lord for a better job in Brownsville, in order to avoid the daily commute. She had applied for a very good position but had been declined in the past. During the fasting and prayer period, the company that had declined the job in the past, called her and offered the job. They told her the job was hers, even without an interview. She told all of us, "Before the fasting, I had no faith whatsoever in God, now, I know God blesses people; He knows the desires of our hearts"
As a pastor I love to see God meet people's needs as they move in faith towards Him. God is a rewarder and the rewards are real. He wants to answer you when you pray. He wants to meet your needs (not greeds). What happens when we ask and receive is that our God gets the reputation He deserves. He set it up this way… you cry, He answers, you are blessed, He is honored!
"and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me." (Psalm 50:15 NIV) Oh how faithful He is!
