The Real Heroes of Christmas

What the Bible says about Worship Part 3

Credit cards seem to be the real heroes of Christmas. You know they are "everywhere you want to be" and they tell us, "don't leave home without it!" Are you glad that someone is out there looking out for us? Making sure we get into more debt!
No, they are not the heroes of Christmas. Neither is Santa Claus, St. Nick, our parents, the church, not even Mary or Joseph. The real heroes of Christmas are the Father and His Son.
I have been privileged to visit the cemeteries of Normandy Beach. I stood and looked and as far as I could see were crosses and stars of David. I saw tombstones of the thousands of young boys who gave their lives to free Europe of a tyrant who was responsible for the torture and death of millions. At the bottom of the tombstones were inscriptions written by the parents concerning their sons. As I read these precious lines of parents who had sacrificed their sons I could not help but weep. They gave their sons for the freedom of people they did not even know.
That is what God did.
"For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us;
And the government will rest on His shoulders;
And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:6)
A Son was GIVEN. In time, in eternity past He made a decision that He would send His Son to earth to live as a man, with a single purpose: to give His life as a ransom for sinners. The Father in heaven GAVE His Son as a sacrifice.
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life." (John 3:16)
This GIVING of His Son was very expensive. The Father had to watch as ungodly men beat His Son and impale Him on a cross. I can not imagine that. I have two sons of my own. I could not do that … could you? Christmas is about a Holy Decision that was made for our benefit. The Son was given knowing He would be sacrificed for us. This Father and Son, they are the real heroes.
"For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son…" (Romans 5:10)
