Change the heart, not just the words

Matthew 15:17-20 (NIV)
¹⁷ "Don't you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? ¹⁸ But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man 'unclean.' ¹⁹ For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. ²⁰ These are what make a man 'unclean'; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him 'unclean.'"

I am convicted.   I just can not get around this.  The words I have allowed to come out, are just a sign of what has been in my heart.. 

Our words show the real condition of our hearts. We say, “I didn’t mean it.”  But really the truth is we didn’t mean to SAY it, but….. We meant it.  If it was in our hearts, we meant it.  It just slipped out. 

So the only way to change it is to change the heart, not just the words.  Thank God that Jesus said we could.  If you are like me I don’t need to say, “I didn’t mean to say it.”  The heart of this problem is a problem in the heart.  I need to confess what is in my heart as sin and He will forgive and cleanse.
